It’s been a while since I last updated and as per usual I’ve been kicked into action with new releases of Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus.
Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.4
We’ve got a bunch of updates for SPP, a load of new features, here’s some that stand out to me:
- Multiple language support in the GUI (English, French, Portugese, Japanese, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional) vSNAP in AWS Cloud, protect applications in AWS and act as a replication target.
- Offload improvements additional archive support, now support long term offload to Tape or VTL hosted by Spectrum Protect and offload to S3 including Glacier support.
- Archival support for S3/Tape stores data as a TAR file containing native application format data, you can manually download without SPP, avoiding any vendor lock-in for your long term storage.
- While there are no new applications supported, DB2, Oracle and MongoDB have had significant improvements to their operations.
- OS currency has updated support – Windows Server and Hyper-v 2019, RHEL and CentOS 7.6 and SLES 15.
- All log entries contain a unique ID, something which Spectrum Protect users in particular have been asking for.

Spectrum Protect 8.1.8
Again, here’s some of my favorite new features:
- Rule based tiering of container pools to tape
- AWS S3 Intelligent tiering – tier S3 objects from standard to infrequent access classes
- Improvements to VE, for VVMware (multi server) and Hyper-v (parallelism)
